Make Room for the Van

Even before we took delivery of the van, we connected with concrete contractors in early January to extend the driveway a little so that the 3rd stall would fit the van. This was such a 'small' job for them, worried it might take forever to find one.

DT Concrete of Mt Horeb came through. I signed up for dropping the problematic evergreen tree in a moment of over-confidence since I took a chainsaw class for my Trout Unlimited volunteer stream work days where we drop invasives like box elders.

Cut it high to limit the 'reach' just in case it fell in an unplanned direction. Avoided the garage! Process went fairly smooth and bucked it up and hauled it away.

Gave a mini-try at yanking the stump with the F150 and some logging chains, but quickly abandoned that and just hired the City of Madison arborist who does work on the side and grinds stumps out twice a year. Got on his schedule in a lucky window and a week later, there was no trace of the tree other than the no-grass zone.

Then we waited hopefully for the concrete call and it came over a month earlier than expected and on May 15 we had a wider driveway.
