La-Z-Boy Swiveling Seats

La-Z-Boy Swiveling Seats

The driver and passenger seats in our van are pretty comfy - leather and power adjustable in many ways (even heated).

But if you want to swivel them 180 degrees to be useful as La-Z-Boy recliners when not driving, you're relegated to manual, less adjustable, non-heated, cloth seats by Ford from the factory.

It's way easier to add swivels to the 'fancy seats' than to try to upgrade the factory swiveling seats with heat and motorized power adjustment.

Ordered Scopema swivel seat pedestals and got to work mounting them. It's one of the earliest tasks of a van build as you really need to know how much "knee space" you have when turned around before starting on the rest of the build out plan.

Thinking ahead, I know that the 2nd alternator regulator will need a +12V signal line for when the engine is actually running. And Ford has a massive connector designed for upfitters buried under the driver seat near the batteries. If I plan carefully now and extend what I need, I'll save time later by not having to remove the entire seat again just to get at the wiring.

But of course it's not quite that easy. The exact signal I need actually needs a mini-circuit with a relay to create the +12V signal from 2 others. So much more Internet research and parts sourcing and I finally end up with a nice Bosch relay that I can crimp in and test and it all works perfectly. Knowing there will be 1001 wires in the van at some point, I carefully labeled and then used clear heatshrink to make it clear what each wire is for. Finally, we can simply turn around and face the daunting, empty van...
